Houghton Mifflin English Language Arts
The Houghton Mifflin Curriculum Resources enables teachers to effectively and easily integrate technology into their English Language Arts curriculum. All of the resources are designed by experienced teachers who understand the daily demands and challenges of the classroom. The Houghton Mifflin Powerpoint presentations, graphic organizers, and web resources save teachers time and provide quality curriculum materials that appropriately integrate technology into teaching and learning.
Houghton Mifflin Powerpoint Presentations
Original teacher created Powerpoint presentations introduce and build background knowledge in the Houghton Mifflin English Language Arts classroom. The Houghton Mifflin Powerpoint presentations include customized backgrounds as well as images and photos designed to build and support background knowledge, especially for English Language Learners (ELL).
For each grade level, Powerpoint presentations are available to help teachers launch the first theme for the school year. We've also included Houghton Mifflin Powerpoint presentations to support each of the Teacher Read-Aloud's and reading selections in Theme 1. The reading selection Powerpoint presentations feature slides addressing the California State English Language Arts Standards and the Key Vocabulary. Finally, our teachers have created Powerpoint presentations to use with the Reading-Writing Workshop.
Houghton Mifflin Graphic Organizers
Based upon Dr. Robert Marzano's research on nonlinguistic representations as an effective instructional strategy, we've created graphic organizers to support vocabulary development, reading comprehension skills, and writing skills found in the Houghton Mifflin English Language Arts activities and lessons. The graphic organizers include elements of design such as color, shapes, size of font and elements, clipart and images, and placement to assist in structuring meaning for students.
The Houghton Mifflin graphic organizers are downloadable and customizable using Inspiration® graphic organizer software. We are currently offering Inspiration® Version 8 (Mac/Win) for only $29.99 (includes S/H; CA residents 8.75% sales tax extra). The graphic organizers are available as PDF documents for teachers who do not have access to Inspiration® graphic organizer software.
Houghton Mifflin Web Resources
For Theme 1 and the reading selections located in the theme, we've provided web resources in the form of links to Internet sites and suggested titles of video resources from Discovery Education Streaming and Learn360 (a current subscription with the individual services is needed to utilize these resources). The web resources support launching the theme, direct instruction from the Houghton Mifflin textbook, and activities from the Classroom Management and Challenge Handbook.
In addition to the web resources, our teachers have created Guide Sheets for grades 2-6 which include short standards-based activities that support the content of the information on the Internet sites. The Guide Sheets are available in both Microsoft Word and as a PDF document.
